Meeting Mr. Stevenson

Greetings, Word Nerds!  Welcome to the last post on Just Mercy.  More watching than writing to do this time.  Let's meet Mr. Stevenson!

WATCH his TED talk here.  Comment on any reactions you have to this expression of his argument.  (The TED talk predates the book.)

HERE is the 60 Minutes video of Walter.  Enjoy.

I love this! He uses some of the information in the book later on. It's great that he can keep the conversation light about such a serious and heavy topic. I suggest checking out the comments on the TED, cool stuff happening!

  2. One of the most fascinating TED talks I’ve ever watched. Truly a brilliant man! He even used quotes from the book! He kept his conversation calm yet intriguing. He never blamed any one person or system but, only gave reasons for why “we need to embrace these challenges, these problems, the suffering; Because ultimately our humanity depends on everyone’s humanity.” I Loved Every Word!!

  3. What a talented and inspirational man. He is so calm, kind and engaging. It felt so surreal to watch him after reading his words in Just Mercy for a while. Excellent, excellent TED Talk. I loved when he used quotes from the book and spoke about his grandmother again and the stories from his childhood! The quote "because ultimately, our humanity depends on everyone's humanity." stuck with me. Humanity reacts to humanity. All true. Very true. True true true!!!

  4. This Ted Talk was actually very interesting and kept my attention (which is sometimes difficult to do depending on the speaker). When watching I felt like I was there in the live audience. I really liked how he related to the book at point because we have been so invested in this book! Overall, very very good!

Bryan Stevenson is a very intellectual and inspiring person. Throughout his TED Talk he's able to give facts, tell stories, and even bring out parts of his book to explain his point. By doing so he's become very influential and persuading people to understand why he's doing what he's currently doing. Every word that came out of Stevenson's mouth was inspiring and striving for the audience to not only hear, but understand his ideas.
